Rock for Higher Education
Free concert
When: November 13 (this Thursday) from 5-9 pm at Campus Village Squad at San Jose State University
Who:GenerationEngage Silicon Valley, Students for Quality Education, California Faculty Association. The bands Hunter, Inverness, and April Chase will be rocking out with speakers Joe Coto and Elena Dorabji!

The Rock for
Higher Education, the big concert to spread awareness about our rising tuition, cuts to education funding, and what we can
do about it, is this Thursday 5-9pm. It will be in the Campus Village Quad, and will have plenty of great music and speakers, tons of media,
and lots of coalition organizations tabling. In case of rain, the concert will move into the Campus Village RAC rooms (bottom floor of CVB).

We are currently looking for volunteers, not only for the concert but also to help with flyering on Monday and Wednesday, any time from 8am
to 7pm. We will be passing out flyers at entrances to the dorms so no one can get in or out of the dorms without finding out about our concert. If you're interested in helping out, please email yourvoice_sjsu@yahoo.com.

No one will stand up for us. If we don't stand up for our education, we will continue to suffer these atrocious cuts. Come join us as we
make a statement for all of
California to hear.

Alternative Spring Break
applications due November 13!

Our Mission
The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Program exposes SJSU students to diversity, cultural immersion, and political and economic differences in an alcohol and drug free environment during Spring Break. Students work side by side with local residents on grassroots projects to address critical, unmet needs on domestic and international service trips during spring break. The intensive cultural immersion and hands-on service exposes students to the realities of community development and promotes fuller comprehension of their place in the global community.

A Collaborative Effort

The San Jose State University Alternative Spring Break Program is a unique partnership between Associated Students' Cesar E. Chavez Community Action Center and San Jose State University’s Center for Service Learning, MOSAIC Cross-Cultural Center, and Student Health Center

Objectives
  • Service: SJSU students volunteer their time and services, working shoulder to shoulder with citizens in community-driven projects that transform homes, local schools, community centers, and public buildings.
  • Education: Speakers, workshops, and reading material help students explore and understand the politics, economics, history, and social issues facing particular communities.
  • Culture: Students travel throughout the country and throughout the world, exposing themselves to various customs, languages, cultures, and ways of life.
